While on the road on business in south Texas, I had the opportunity to visit the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum in San Benito, Texas. The few pictures I took do no do it justice. If you ever plan to go down to the Rio Grande Valley, this is a stop you must make. All of the Conjunto legends including pictures, accordions, memorabilia, play bills, 78s-45s-Lps, and all who left their mark and made an incredible impact on the Texas music scene since the 1930s and beyond. Indeed a place to visit to honor the musical roots and traditions we love.

Old Conjunto Gear Setup
Pictures of all of the conjunto legends and their history...

Cristina Balli Director of the Center......mas retratos

The legendary Narciso Martinez and his accordion on display (home made grille). This old accordion is featured on the Arhoolie LP
Don Pedro Ayala and his rigged up accordion with two external mics - rubber bands and wire!
Gilberto Perez from Mercedes, Texas and his custom accordion he painted
I was blown away with the Freddy Fender exhibit. These are just a few pictures of what is on display. Here you will find very important information and history of this great musician including all of his Grammy's and recordings.
And of course, the most important stop in the Valley, mi madre (mom) Esperanza Reyes who lives in Weslaco.

Love this new section Gilbert. Im Sure they will be held in other parts of the U.S.A. as well. but I know Florida will have some great ones. I will post the dates and times very soon.

Wow- Christina has been busy this last year!!  This looks awesome.
It must have taken awhile to collect all of this.  Just curious, did Chris Stratchwitz provide alot of the memorabilia & records?

This is great stuff.  I always like when you post becuase you always have something great to share with all of us.  It would be nice if all those who post a lot about nothing would do the same.  I don't like the fact that I take the time to open a post and all there is "I'm on vacation" or topics that hold no value to the rest of us.

Just my 2 cents!

GILBERT, thanks for sharing great pictures, especially the one with your so very young "MOM"..you are one lucky person/I lost mine about 10 years ago and it still hurts.

I was in the Museum in May of this year/took many/many pictures and am sorry I don't know how to post them in here. I am always asking others to post my pictures in here but these were too many and didn't want to burden anyone with such a task.

Thanks again and for those who have not visited, YOU should do it. I was also planning on going to the one in Alice, Texas, but I just didn't have the time. Chuco

I had a chance to visit this great place. I took pics and was enlightened with the rich history the valley has. I also plan to go home for several days to visit my family and enjoy the Conjunto festival. Hope to see many of you folks there.
