| #1 | Saludos Camaradas de Conjunto y del Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio: after a restful summer of working around the canton, I began the new semester at Palo Alto College about a month ago and I've begun working on the 29th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio, 2010. There's some exciting news. For the first time in the history of the Tejano Conjunto Festival, the 2010 festival will be held the week after the Mother's Day weekend: May 11-15, with the Seniors Conjunto Dance on Tuesday, a CD Release Party on Wednesday (both at the Guadalupe Theatre), and three days at Rosedale Park, Thursday-Saturday, May 13-15. We took the advice of many of you who said that they couldn't attend the festival because of Mother's Day weekend, and we were finally able to secure the three days at the park for the following weekend. Put these dates in your calendar and we hope to see you here.
Two more things, as I have done for the last couple of years, I'm asking for your suggestions as to who are the best conjuntos performing today and which conjuntos should we definitely have at the 2010 festival? I will be booking the conjuntos by November-December, 2009. I will take all of your suggestions into acccount but remember I have a limited budget and limited time slots (19). As always, I try to present the best in conjunto music with a on-of-a-kind line-up for our fans. I also try to present the best of the old and the new, to try and give a chance to those outstanding conjuntos who may have never performed at the festival. Because of my limitations, I have to rotate conjuntos somewhat from year to year. Send me your suggestions.
Finally, we will be publishing the TCF program magazine as we have done for the last two years and I'm looking for some writings on conjunto music: your favorite conjunto stories, academic articles, poems, interviews, essays, etc. If you or someone you know has some writings on conjunto music, or would like to write something to be considered for publication in our magazine, just send it to me at juantejeda@sbcglobal.net We still have a little time, deadline for submission of work is not till February, 2010, but it's never to early to get the word out.
Spread the word. Gracias por tus sugerencias y trabajo por nuestra musica y cultura. en conjunto carnalismo, juan |

Ditto what Lalo said about having the festival after Mothers Day, I'm sure there will be a noticeable increase in attendance. I'm thinking about something I can contribute to the Program Guide, perhaps an interview with Jose Trino Sanchez.
My suggestions, no particular order:
George y Mague Ruben Vela Santiago Jimenez Jr. Flaco Jimenez Flavio Longoria Esteban Jordan Oscar Hernandez Los Pavos Reales Bene Medina y Lupe Enriquez Gilberto Perez Los Garcia Brothers Boni Mauricio Los Monarcas Johnny Cruz Los Tremendos Cinco Los Dos Gilbertos Chano Cadena Cuatro Rosas Mingo Saldivar Joel Guzman y Sarah Fox TexManiacs Ricardo Guzman Nick Villarreal Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers Bernardo y Sus Compadres Cha Cha Jimenez y Beto Martinez Los Fantasmas del Valle Roberto Casillas y Ramon "Rabbit" Sanchez Shawn Sahm & The Texas Tornados
Many of the legends mentioned above have had health problems and are getting advanced in age. When they are no longer performing, Texas music will be much poorer.

| #4 | I think the new dates will be a plus for the TCF 2010, as well.
It goes without saying LOBO IV would like to be apart of the line up, as well.
As usual, I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. __________________ MIKE

| #6 | This past years line up was one of a kind and I am glad I got to experience it. However, I hope that you will keep bringing in fresh groups and not the same ol favorites over and over again. There are so many groups out there that you could probably have 4 or 5 years worth of line ups and not have any repeat performances. I hope it is not like the TTMA where they just pick their favorites to perform and receive awards. Just my two cents.
El Tigre, You being from H-Town, I am very surprised you didn't mention groups from your hometown like Leo Puga y Los Dominantez, Los Hermanos Cortez, Impozzible, Invicto, Los Centellas, Big Lou and the Boys, etc. Share the love my friend. Also, I disagree with the music being much poorer when the legends quit playing. There are so many more groups that are taking conjunto to a whole another level. Give them some credit. Just my thoughts, don't mean to offend anyone. |

Onajet, I am at Maks, Legends, BB Wolfs, Scooters, Hallabaloos, Fiesta Ballroom in Seguin or one of the clubs in San Antonio or the Valley nearly every weekend, often for 3 days, supporting these bands. Don't believe I have ever seen you. __________________ Make it puro conjunto carnal ! |

| #8 | Hi Mr. Tejeda, I second the vote for Lobo IV; they're a solid, solid conjunto, who have a great dancing beat, great vocals, and each of them are masters of their instruments; additionally, as you know, the group is very diversified, and have the keen sense of judging what style of music to play according to the likings of their listeners--they can jump from hard-core conjunto, to progressive conjunto, and then tejano. I recall many on the Reyes forum voted for them to get onto the 2009 play bill. Hopefully, the TCF 2010 can get them back for the people to enjoy.
Also, I know I've requested this group in the past, but I think inviting Los Arcos Hermanos Pena would be a great choice. Albeit they come from Dimmitt, Texas, which may not be cost effective for the TCF, but I believe their musical style speaks for itself; their musical style combines the best of both conjunto and norteno, with 3 part harmonies, and clearly, the accordion player, tears it up (The song "Ambicion" for instance). I've never heard a band who sounds like them, and they have a unique style. That being said, I hope TCF 2010 can take into account showcasing this band for their musical stylings (in order to showcase, the many sounds of conjunto).
God bless, and thanks for your work with TCF. |

| #9 | Mr. Tejeda, Thanks for your hard work and contributions you have made for conjunto music. I appreciate the fact that you are going out to the people for some input in order to produce the best festival possible. I am also glad that the dates have changed. Now, conjunto music lovers do not have to choose between mom and conjunto music . My one recommendation for this year's festival is Los Padrinos. They have a unique style of music that comes from the heart. They may not be the flashiest but they play for the joy of playing. It is something that many of us afficionados can relate too. Again, thanks for your efforts and best of luck organizing this great festival that many of us look forward to year after year.

It would be generous to the Conjunto fans to see the strongest solid conjunto, Los Monarcas de Pete and Mario Dias! As well as one of Houston Tx, highly aclaimed Conjunto "Los Cuatro Aces". Thank you in advance for your consideration towards these two Conjuntos. __________________ Conjunto to the Bone! |

Also, I think it would be nice to see Mickey y Sus Carnales on the bill. She would be a great addition when recognizing women in conjunto. She has a great old-school conjunto beat, and plays her box a todo valle. |

| #16 | Gracias to Mr.Tejeda and all the folks who make the festival happen. We usually make a family trip out from the San Francsico Califas Bay Area to the festival and have never been disappointed. Rain or SHINE, its always a great ambiente and great show. We love the classic conjuntos and also enjoy the new ones. We'd like to put in our vote for -
Conjunto Los Pochos out of Los Angeles, Ca. I know some of you have been hearing them on the STCA radio station. Otoño, Elliot, Lorenzo and Ernesto are truly awesome. Hope to see all of you next year!

Camaradas del Tejano Conjunto Festival: Gracias por sus recomendaciones. I'm taking them all into account. Fortunately, many of the old-school great conjuntos are still with us, but many of them are in their 70s and some are sick. Who are the best of the best conjuntos playing today and who are the best of the young gun conjuntos out there? Don't forget the date change for the 29th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio 2010, the week after Mother's Day for the first time in the history of the festival, May 11-12 at the Guadalupe Theatre and May 13-15 at Rosedale Park. Gracias and spread the word. en conjunto carnalismo, juan |
